Caritas Graduation Project hosts its annual quarterly meeting
Caritas Graduation Project hosted its annual quarterly meeting on 30th May 2022 in Ntende Hotel located in Gatsibo district. Uniting all the project’s staff from the head office to the field offices, the meeting’s main objective was mainly to discuss the Graduation Project achievements, challenges, proposed solutions and the way forward (action plans).
Caritas Graduation Project comes after the Graduation Pilot 2021 Project whose goal was to improve the self-reliance and livelihoods of 505 beneficiaries identified from Nyabiheke camp located in Eastern Province, Gatsibo District; Kiziba camp located in Western Province, Karongi District and Kigali Urban through the provision of integrated, multi-sectorial services including finance, agriculture and livestock know-how, market linkages and advocacy.
In addition, the project intended also to monitor the businesses of 835 beneficiaries who were identified and served in 2020. Moreover, the project intended to boost their dignity and free them from dependency and humanitarian assistance.
Caritas Graduation Project is now operative in 4 sites namely: Kigali, Kiziba Refugee Camp, Mahama Kiziba Refugee Camp, Nyabiheke Kiziba Refugee Camp.
Project’s quarterly meetings therefore aim at sharing updates on the progress of project implementation among the project staff. During the meeting, each site manager is given time to present what is being done in his/her respective site to achieve the project’s set goals. Key achievements of the 2022 quarterly meeting are as follows.
From Kiziba, the site manager informed the project’s staff that there has been identification of 235 new project beneficiaries including 70 Rwandans and 165 refugees. 205 beneficiaries are expected to conduct different income generating activities (IGAs) and 30 beneficiaries will be taken to TVET schools.
The site manager also informed the audience that training on SILC, IGA, Entrepreneurship and business plan development were also successfully conducted to beneficiaries as planned. Among 205 trained beneficiaries, 68 of them including (44 Rwandan from the HC and 24 Congolese) were also trained on Agriculture and livestock promotion.
From Mahama, the site manager informed the project’s staff that recruitment of 14 Project Community Mobilizers (volunteers) has successfully been completed. These volunteers were trained on SILC methodology, IGA, Entrepreneurship and business plan development, community mobilisation and protection mainstreaming. The manager mentioned that 235 new project beneficiaries have been identified, among whom 132 female beneficiaries. The identified beneficiaries include 164 refugees from Mahama camp and 71 Rwandans from the hosting community (Munini, Mwoga and Kamombo Cells). 35 beneficiaries were taken to TVET schools at BUTAMWA and GACURIRO TVET schools and 200 beneficiaries will conduct different income generating activities (IGAs).
From Nyabiheke site, the Manager informed the audience that monitoring of SILC groups has been successfully completed and that all SILC groups have shared out their total wealth on 31st May 2022. The site manager also informed the project’s staff of a mini-exhibition organised by the Caritas Rwanda-Nyabiheke Refugee Camp to celebrate achievements of the project’s beneficiaries. The exhibition was themed ‘’Save Today to Secure Your Tomorrow” and took place on May 31st, 2022 at Nyabiheke Refugee Basketball stadium.
Updates from Kigali Urban’s site were shared by the site manager who informed the audience that monitoring of 16 SILC including 6 formed in 2020 and 10 in 2021 has been successfully completed and that all of them are still active. The manager also mentioned that 10 SILC groups (2021) have recently shared out 16,718,050 FRW.
Four outputs are to be achieved in the Caritas Graduation Project and they include: Access to financial services facilitated; Access to self-employment/business facilitated; Access to agricultural / livestock production enabled and Sectoral cash grants or vouchers provided.
Concluding the meeting, Caritas Graduation Project Coordinator, Mr. Jean D’Amour Nsabiyaremye thanked the project’s staff for countless efforts that are invested day by day to achieve the project’s objectives and assured them of Caritas Rwanda’s continued support to tackle all the faced challenges and to drive the Graduation Project to success.
Réunion trimestrielle du Projet Caritas Graduation, Mai 2022
Le Projet Caritas Graduation a organisé sa réunion trimestrielle annuelle le 30 mai 2022 à l’hôtel Ntende situé dans le district de Gatsibo. Réunissant tout le personnel du projet basés au siège de Caritas Rwanda ainsi que dans les différents sites et camps de réfugiés, l’objectif principal de la réunion était principalement de discuter des réalisations du projet Graduation, des défis, des solutions proposées et de la voie à suivre (plans d’action) pour le prochain trimestre.
Le Projet Caritas Graduation a été lancé après le projet Graduation Pilot 2021 dont l’objectif était d’améliorer l’autonomie et les moyens de subsistance de 505 bénéficiaires identifiés dans les camp de Nyabiheke situé dans la province de l’Est, district de Gatsibo ; Camp de Kiziba situé dans la province de l’Ouest, le district de Karongi et la ville de Kigali grâce à la fourniture de services intégrés et multisectoriels, notamment le savoir-faire en matière de finance, d’agriculture et d’élevage, les liens avec les marchés et le plaidoyer.
En outre, le projet visait également à suivre les entreprises de 835 bénéficiaires qui ont été identifiés et servis en 2020. De plus, le projet visait à renforcer leur dignité et à les libérer de la dépendance sur l’aide humanitaire.
Le Projet Caritas Graduation est maintenant opérationnel dans 4 sites, à savoir : Kigali, le camp de réfugiés de Kiziba, le camp de réfugiés de Mahama et le camp de réfugiés de Nyabiheke.
Les réunions trimestrielles du projet visent donc à partager des mises à jour sur l’avancement de la mise en œuvre du projet parmi le personnel du projet. Au cours de la réunion, chaque responsable de site dispose d’un temps pour présenter ce qui a été accompli dans son site respectif pour atteindre les objectifs fixés par le projet. Les principales réalisations de la réunion trimestrielle de 2022 sont les suivantes:
Depuis le camp Kiziba, le responsable du site a informé le personnel du projet qu’il y a eu identification de 235 nouveaux bénéficiaires du projet dont 70 Rwandais et 165 réfugiés. 205 bénéficiaires devraient mener différentes activités génératrices de revenus (AGR) et 30 bénéficiaires seront dirigés vers des écoles de TVET.
Le responsable du site a également informé l’audience que les formations sur le SILC, l’IGA, l’entrepreneuriat et l’élaboration de plans d’affaires ont également été menées avec succès aux bénéficiaires comme prévu. Parmi les 205 bénéficiaires formés, 68 d’entre eux (44 rwandais du CH et 24 congolais) ont également été formés sur la promotion de l’agriculture et de l’élevage.
Depuis Mahama, le responsable du site a informé le personnel du projet que le recrutement de 14 mobilisateurs communautaires du projet (volontaires) a été mené à bien. Ces volontaires ont été formés à la méthodologie SILC, à l’IGA, à l’entrepreneuriat et à l’élaboration de plans d’affaires, à la mobilisation communautaire et à l’intégration de la protection. Le responsable a mentionné que 235 nouveaux bénéficiaires du projet ont été identifiés, dont 132 femmes bénéficiaires. Les bénéficiaires identifiés comprennent 164 réfugiés du camp de Mahama et 71 Rwandais de la communauté d’accueil (cellules Munini, Mwoga et Kamombo). 35 bénéficiaires ont été emmenés dans les écoles de TVET des écoles de BUTAMWA et GACURIRO et 200 bénéficiaires mèneront différentes activités génératrices de revenus (AGR).
Depuis le site de Nyabiheke, le gestionnaire a informé l’audience que le suivi des groupes SILC a été réalisé avec succès et que tous les groupes SILC ont partagé leur gain totale le 31 Mai 2022. Le gestionnaire du site a également informé le personnel du projet d’une mini-exposition organisée par le Caritas Rwanda-Camp de réfugiés de Nyabiheke pour célébrer les réalisations des bénéficiaires du projet. L’exposition avait pour thème “Epargner aujourd’hui pour sécuriser votre avenir” et a eu lieu le 31 mai 2022 au stade de basket-ball des réfugiés de Nyabiheke.
Des mises à jour du site de Kigali Urbain ont été partagées par le gestionnaire du site qui a informé l’audience que le suivi de 16 SILC dont 6 formés en 2020 et 10 en 2021 a été achevé avec succès et que tous sont toujours actifs. Le responsable a également mentionné que 10 groupes SILC (2021) se sont récemment partagés 16,718,050 FRW.
Quatre produits doivent être atteints dans le cadre du Projet Graduation de Caritas et ils incluent : Accès facilité aux services financiers ; Accès à l’auto-emploi/entreprise facilité ; Accès à la production agricole / animale activé et subventions sectorielles en espèces ou bons fournis.
En conclusion de la réunion, le coordinateur du projet Graduation de Caritas, M. Jean D’Amour Nsabiyaremye a remercié le personnel du projet pour les innombrables efforts investis jour après jour pour atteindre les objectifs du projet et les a assurés du soutien continu de Caritas Rwanda pour relever tous les défis rencontrés et pour mener le projet de fin d’études vers le succès.
