Disaster victims appreciate the help they have received

La Caritas Un pilier de leur survie

In collaboration with Trocaire, OXFAM, Caritas Rwanda and the organization DUHAMIC-ADRI, they helped disaster victims by providing building materials, sanitation equipment and messages urging them to fight the global COVID-19 pandemic.  This is a 45-day project funded by START FUND.

Since February 2020, Rwanda has been hit by rains, whereas this month is usually a short period of sunshine. The rains have continued from then until May, where heavy rains in April and May cost lives and damaged many activities, leaving people homeless.

The 45-day project assisted 560 disaster-affected families in 6 districts namely Nyanza, Ruhango, Muhanga, Ngororero, Rulindo and Gakenke.

The community received various equipment, sheets, mattresses, hygiene kits including hand sanitizers and masks to prevent the outbreak of the epidemic.

The victims of the disaster are very grateful to Caritas Rwanda and the partners who have worked together as they are being helped to return to a normal life.

Beatrice Mukakabera from Nyanza district in Rwabicuma sector confirms that if she didn't receive this help, she would never have a home again.

"I am so grateful for this support, I don't know how to say it, I never thought that I'll have my own home to call home again! Now the neighbors are helping me to make the bricks and now I've even just received the sheet metal. God bless Caritas and its partners. »

Local leaders in these areas are pleased with the partnership, and also reminds the community to take good care of what is given to them so that they too can help change their lives.

In this project Caritas Rwanda in collaboration with Caritas of the dioceses of Butare, Nyundo and Kabgayi and local authorities have participated in identifying those in more need of help. They were selected and assisted.
